The Villa Winternitz (1932)

It wasn't just my first time to Prague, it was also my first international photo exhibit.

As you can imagine I was really excited to be over there. The exhibit was hosted by the Villa Winternitz.

The villa was built by Adolf Loos and Karel Lhota in 1932 by Prague lawyer Josef Winternitz for himself and his family. Really cool, simple and airy design with great light. My favorite part of the design was just inside the "front" door, just like Wright, the front door is not at the front of the house. (weirdos =) ) Just inside you are given the choice of left that goes down semi-dark stairs or right, which is up the stairs and has this very Wright-ian, bright natural light "peek" into another room. Not enough to see the room but more than enough to make you want to follow the light and see where it goes. It was very playful right of the bat inside the house.

You just can't say no to the light, and why would you want to??? Once up the stars the house opens up and you are "released" into a large, airy room filled with streaks of beautiful warm light. And you can't talk about the Villa without seeing the stairs...just look at them. Such playful colors while getting your steps in =)

What do you think of the design? (Comment below)
